Upcoming Independent Audit of Carbonsafe Projects

Between January 26–30, Carbonsafe will host an on-site visit by a third, independent party as part of the ongoing certification cycle of its agricultural carbon sequestration projects. The visit represents a key stage in the validation and verification process of the project results.

The audit will be conducted by Earthood, an internationally recognized organization with extensive experience in the validation and verification of climate and carbon projects.

The main objective of the audit is to confirm that Carbonsafe’s projects comply with the applicable international requirements for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of sequestered carbon, as well as to ensure transparency, reliability, and traceability of all data and processes used. In other words, the purpose is to guarantee that the reported carbon stored in soils is real and measured in a scientifically robust and credible manner.

During the audit, the experts will carry out several key checks:

• review the project documentation and data collected within the program;

• verify the calculations and evidence supporting the reported amounts of sequestered carbon;

• visit selected farms and fields to confirm that the practices are being implemented on the ground;

• conduct discussions with participating farmers to assess the practical application of the requirements.

The on-site visit is an important part of the certification process, but it does not represent its conclusion. The process continues through a series of subsequent steps that are standard practice in the independent verification of carbon projects.

In the next phase, Earthood conducts a comprehensive assessment of all collected materials, including the previously submitted project documentation, the findings from on-site checks, and the information gathered during interviews with farmers. This analysis is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the applicable standard and the approved methodology.

If questions, non-conformities, or the need for additional clarification are identified, the auditors issue formal findings and observations. Carbonsafe, together with the participating farms, is given a defined time window to provide additional evidence, corrective actions, or clarifications required to address them.

Once all findings have been resolved, Earthood prepares a final verification report confirming the verified quantities of sequestered carbon and the projects’ compliance with the relevant standard requirements. This document formally marks the completion of the certification cycle.

In the final phase, the results and the report are recorded in the relevant registry, allowing the projects to proceed to the next stage of development. This includes the issuance and commercialization of carbon credits on voluntary markets, as well as preparation for future monitoring periods.

Independent audits are a mandatory part of a continuous cycle of monitoring, reporting, and verification. They contribute to higher data quality, greater resilience of the implemented practices, and increased trust among all stakeholders.
