Subject: Public Consultation on the Updated Project Design Document for the CARBONSAFE CARBON FARMING PROJECT – NORTH REGION

Carbonsafe JSC hereby informs all stakeholders and interested parties that the Balkan Carbon Credits Registry (BCCR) has initiated a public consultation process regarding the updated Project Design Document (PDD) for the CARBONSAFE CARBON FARMING PROJECT – NORTH REGION.

The updated documentation has been prepared as part of the ongoing validation and verification process of the project and includes amendments and clarifications introduced in response to findings and requests for clarification raised by the independent Validation and Verification Body (VVB), as well as a result of internal technical reviews and quality assurance activities undertaken by the Project Developer.

The published amendments are primarily aimed at refining and supplementing the project documentation, enhancing transparency, improving methodological consistency, and providing additional detail regarding the procedures applied during the validation process. The amendments do not alter the scope, objectives, or fundamental concept of the project.

Project Description

The project is developed and managed by Carbonsafe JSC, a company dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture and climate solutions. They are implemented within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, in the agricultural sector. The primary goal of the projects is the removal of carbon dioxide (СО2) from the atmosphere and its long-term storage in the form of soil organic carbon (SOC).

The project is launched in January 2023 with a 40-year crediting period (2023–2063), during which it’s activities will generate verified climate benefits and carbon credits associated with measurable increases in soil carbon stocks.

The project is a regional grouped project in which farms can gradually be enrolled over time, provided they meet predetermined eligibility criteria.

The aim of the project is to turn agricultural land into a reliable mechanism for soil carbon sequestration while simultaneously improving farm resilience. Farms can generate carbon credits through the implementation of regenerative practices. The approach is based on annual geo-referenced soil sampling at three depths (0–30 cm; 30–60 cm; 60–90 cm) from each registered field; laboratory analysis of the samples in an accredited facility; and the issuance of agronomic recommendations and individual management strategies.

Credits are issued ex-post only after the measured increases in soil organic carbon have been independently verified by an accredited third-party verification and validation body and registered in a public registry for full traceability. In this way, farmers not only contribute to reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) but also receive a direct financial incentive.

The project support the restoration of soil fertility, improved water retention, reduced erosion, gradual reduction in the need for synthetic fertilizers, enhanced biodiversity, and healthier ecosystems.

Farms become more resilient to climate change, while annual laboratory analyses and agronomic recommendations help each participant achieve optimal results. The initiative integrates climate, environmental, social, and economic benefits, offering a sustainable development model for agriculture and local communities.

Public Consultation Period

The public consultation is being conducted by the Balkan Carbon Credits Registry from 25 June 2026 until 17:00 (EET) on 10 July 2026.

During this period, all interested stakeholders are invited to review the updated documentation and submit comments, recommendations, or observations regarding the proposed amendments.
